Lester Frank Ward (1841-1913)

Lester Frank Ward represents the tip of the iceberg of the "Administrative State." Murray Rothbard devotes a single sentence to him:

“And let us not overlook the eminent interventionist sociologist Lester Frank Ward, whose proposed ‘scientific,’ ‘positive,’ planned economy, would consist of a ‘social engineering’ based on statistical information fed from all parts of the country into a central bureau of statistics.”

Rothbard is an evolutionist, so doesn't highlight Ward's role as an apostle of evolution and the transformation of "cosmic purposelessness" to "humanistic [man-centered, autonomous] sovereignty."
