William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925)

Why did a Christian of immense talent and experience lose in a head-to-head match with an atheist? Why did America -- a once-Christian nation with immense resources and potential -- become a debt-ridden nation of functionally illiterate atheists? (If they could travel through time, that's what America's Founders would think about today's Americans: they might as well be atheists.)

Why has church history turned out so poorly? Why has the Body of Christ not fulfilled "The Great Commission" Christ gave them (Matthew 28:18-20)?

I think the life of William Jennings Bryan is a microcosm of those failures.

If you're a Christian and you want to be an "influencer" and do well in debates with atheists, there are two parts to your training

  1. You have to not be influenced by atheistic influencers. You probably already are influenced, so you must de-program yourself. You're in a cult. You need help to escape. Once you've made the decision to exit the cult, you must go back to square one. You need to know what Samuel Adams knew in 1736 when he was admitted to Harvard after being a student in the theocratic public schools of the state-church of Massachusetts. Minus the state-church stuff.
  2. Learn tips and tricks to debate atheists.

The first part is 90% of the training.

William Jennings Bryan tried to defend Christianity the same way as the "church fathers" and subsequent Christian compromisers with autonomy. This is why Bryan failed so disastrously.
